WHAT TO DO

Because of its location in the South Down National park, the cottage is ideal for walkers, nature lovers, bird watchers, trail runners and mountain bikers. You may not even want to move from this little haven.

WHAT TO SEE

Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the famous, open landscape of the South Downs is celebrated for its history. The South Downs is a long, thin ridge composed of the chalk which millions of years ago covered much of the South East.

WHERE TO EAT

Arundel and the surrounds have excellent dining options. Being food lovers ourselves we provide an information pack with our recommendations. Alternatively there are excellent fresh food options. See below who is on our list.

CANOE ALONG THE ARUN

Surrounded by fantastic countryside, there are plenty of wildlife spotting opportunities whilst traversing the River Arun.

SOUTH DOWNS WALKING

With more walking routes than any other National Park in the UK you are spoilt for choice. We provide Walking routes, guides and maps for the South Downs.

COUNTRY SIDE CYCLING

With mainly off-road, mountain bike routes which follows the escarpments and ridges of the South Downs through Sussex and Hampshire, with some breathtaking views.

AMBLE IN ARUNDEL

A choice of three self guided walks of varying lengths, all starting from the pay and display car park in Mill Road, Arundel, opposite the Castle entrance.

EXPLORE THE AREAS HERITAGE & HISTORY

From its 900 year old castle to ancient traditions and customs, Arundel and the surrounding area have so much to offer for the inquisitive visitor.

GOODWOOD RACECOURSE

Five days of race meetings from 28 July to 1 August - Goodwood has retained a pseudo-glamorous hats-and-hampers feel. The racecourse traces the southernmost edge of the new National Park and the nearby village of Sutton.

THE GEORGE AT BURPHAM

Within walking distance of the cottage it's recently been given a smart new look, to which beams, fires and a smugglers' wheel add character. The seasonal menu is full of tasty, popular classics.

"The George & Dragon" reputedly one of the oldest 3 pubs in Sussex has a wealth of charm & character. Nestling amongst the rolling hills of the Sussex Downs National Park the pub garden has some of the most breath taking views across the countryside.
